One of the most beautiful things about photography is how subjects and objects are transformed into something new and different, just by shifting perspectives. By including and excluding things in the frame, the mood changes. The reality isn’t altered, but the story is told differently.
I am slowly (so slowly) learning that our minds are like cameras. When we allow in certain thoughts, attitudes, or information, or restrict others, we can change our stories – even though the facts stay the same. So, the extension of that is if I only allow my thoughts to rest on ideas and beliefs that bring life, who knows what kind of joy could be waiting?
In the words of the brilliant Amy Poehler, “When the demon starts to slither my way and say bad shit about me, I turn around and say, ‘Hey. Cool it. Amy is my friend. Don’t talk about her like that.’ Sticking up for ourselves in the same way we would for one of our friends is a hard but satisfying thing to do. Sometimes it works.”
Here are some pics from one of our recent boudoir shoots. Boudoir is all about taking control of the thoughts you have about yourself – or at least about telling the negative ones to take a hike while you enjoy being appreciated. Thanks to K for allowing us to capture her beautiful self!
