Finding the Balance
I am extremely task-oriented. I always have a list going in my head, I always have my day portioned out to the accomplished various things and I HATE being interrupted mid-task. If I want to do anything fun, I have to actively allot the time for that in advance. I can be spontaneous, but I often feel stressed after the fact because of all the things I didn’t accomplish.
Being task-oriented is amazing because you can get a lot done, but it is also a curse because while you’re kicking butt and taking names, life is passing you by. How many of your memories are of cleaning the bathroom or doing the banking?
On the other hand, if you are totally spontaneous and always up for fun with no attention to life’s responsibilities, you find yourself living in a mess, being in debt and feeling stressed. That isn’t a great way to live either.
So, how do you find the balance?
I can’t say that I am qualified to answer that question, but I suspect that spending some time thinking about your life is key to living more fully. That sounds like a no-brainer, but sitting in silence is really difficult for many of us. I know it is for me. Even ten minutes with no screens and no noise would go a long way toward sorting out our priorities.
So, if you don’t spend any time in silence during your day, I challenge you to give it a try – I will too. It could be transformative!
These photos are from this client’s second shoot with us. We always feel so privileged when we get the chance to photograph someone twice and sometimes even three times. Knowing that our experience and photos are compelling and valuable to people is so rewarding for us. Thanks so much to D for allowing us to share!
