The seed of an idea

Kevan and I went to a photography conference in Vegas last week, and while we were there we went to see the Cirque du Soleil show “O”.  There are no words to describe the show but I can tell you how I felt: overwhelmed.  I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the choreography, and by the grace, agility, and audacity of the performers.  I was overwhelmed by sheer man hours that must have gone into training each performer.  I was overwhelmed by the thought of the risk the creators had to take in pitching the idea in the first place.

And yet, there it all was.  It has been running for many years now, and has grossed at least a billion dollars.  And it began as a seed of an idea.

I always forget that a beginning only has to be a seed – not a full-grown idea.  Once made, a beginning has momentum all its own – inspiring beauty, creativity, and dedication.  At some point, it needs to be fertilized with a little bit of audacity, but by that point, you’re all in anyway so what the heck.

One thing we always hope to do through our shoots is to provide women an opportunity to see themselves from a new vantage point.  From there, we hope they gain renewed confidence in their value as mothers, wives, employees, friends, and human beings.  We see that confidence as the seed of an idea, and all we do is provide the dirt.
